 Summary
Having slept for many years, the vampire Lestat awakens to find the world has changed drastically from what he had known previously. A lover of music, he involves himself with a band of rock musicians and catapults them to fame with his provocative lyrics and style.
Lestat openly challenges the vampire community, angering them by telling the world of their existence. His goal is to drive the ancients into the open, specifically, his creator, Marius.
Lestat's music awakens the queen of all vampires, Akasha, and she comes for him, intent on making him her king. In the end, a bloody battle wages between Akasha and the ancients.
Jesse is a young woman working with an institute that specializes in the study of vampires. She becomes fascinated with Lestat after discovering his journal, and against her superiors' wishes, openly seeks his acquaintance.
In her search, Jesse not only wins the love of Lestat, but also learns the truth of her own origins.
 Maharet - Lena Olin
Maharet is an ancient. For centuries, she has guarded over her "human" family, the remaining member of which is her niece Jesse.
Although little is learned of her history, Maharet plays a pivotal role in helping the ancients destroy Akasha.
